If you are looking for a new way to grow Herbs that does not require having to experience with soil mixtures or worrying about your plants not getting the right nutrients, you should try growing them using a hydroponics system.

Hydroponics is simply growing Herbs using a system of water channels connected to each pot. The nutrients the plants need is delivered in the water directly to the roots. At Hippie Grow Shop, we have several different hydroponic growing systems that include everything you need to get started growing hydroponically.

There are countless ways to set up a hydroponic grow room in your home and systems can and do vary. Yet, all hydroponics systems will function similarly.

What Do I Need to Grow Herbs Using a Hydroponics System?

You will need to gather the right materials, equipment, lights, and other such items. In general, you will want:

  • Herbs Seeds or Clones
  • Hydroponic (Liquid) Nutrients
  • 5-Gallon Pots for Growing Your Plants In
  • LED Grow Lights
  • Timers
  • pH Test Kits
  • Grow Tent

You will need to test the pH level of the water and adjust it as needed, using the appropriate method. You will also want to add your liquid nutrients into the tank following the directions that will tell you the ratio of nutrients to add to the water.

Once you have your hydroponics system set up, you will want to hang LED grow lights above your plants. Most lights have a built-in timer so you can automatically change what type of light your plants get. If not, connect the lights to a timer.

Finally, set up your grow tent around your plants and grow lights. Keep in mind this is just an overview of setting up a hydroponics system.

Hydroponics System Tips for Beginners

  • Test the pH level in your water at least once a day
  • Use tomato cages to support plants.
  • Different strains will absorb nutrients differently. If you notice browning forming on the
leaves, the plants are getting too many nutrients, so cut back.
  • Do not harvest your plants too soon. It is exciting growing your own Herbs. Yet most
beginners harvest their plants way too soon.
  • Buds gain about 25% of their final size in the last few weeks of growth, so be patient.

You can cut off a few pieces of the bud at a time and allow the plant to keep growing and developing. This allows you to test the bud at different stages.
