Yes, the Herbs Act was the new name given to the ACMPR in October 2018. The only thing that changed was the name, not the processes to securing a license.
You need to have at least one of the hundreds of medical conditions treated with medicinal Herbs AND a prescription written by a qualified healthcare doctor.
Health Canada does not charge individuals for medicinal Herbs licenses. However, your healthcare doctor can charge a consultation fee. There can also be a fee for the help you receive to put together your application and medical records.
A MMAR license was the original medicinal Herbs license one could obtain. If you have a MMAR license you do need to upgrade it to an ACMPR license.
As long as you have a prescription issued by a qualified healthcare doctor and include all of the required documentation you mail to Health Canada, you should receive your license. Although, if you forget to include anything, your application can be delayed until you supply the necessary documents.
Based on your Herbs prescription, Health Canada will determine the number of plants you will need to grow. The higher the gram amount, the more plants you will need.
When you apply, you will have the option to growing plants indoors, outdoors or both indoors and outdoors. Just make sure to pick the option that fits your needs as once it is issued, you will only be allowed to grow plants in the areas allowed by the license.
An ACMPR license normally is issued for one year. You do need to reapply for your license before the current expires to be allowed to continue growing medicinal marijuana.
