The first thing you need to understand is growing Herbs indoors presents its own set of challenges. With our beginner’s guide, we break growing down into easy-to-follow steps to help get you up and growing as easily as possible. Ready to get started? Let’s get growing!

Step 1: Assign a space in the home as a “grow room.”

You don’t need an entire room, but you should clear out space in a closet, cabinet, or corner where you can grow your plants. It is a good idea to start small with maybe one or two plants since this is the less expensive way to set up your grow room and get into growing.

Step 2: Choose a grow kit and grow lights for fast set up.

If you want the quickest way to set up your grow room, check out our grow kits and grow lights. You want to make sure your plants only get light at the correct times, so the grow room needs to be essentially “light-tight” so no excess light gets in when it shouldn’t.

With grow lights, you can get started using fluorescent lights. However, you will eventually want to upgrade to HID or LED lights. So if you plan on growing long-term it is better to start with HID or LED lights so you don’t have to buy new lights later.

Step 3: Select climate control equipment.

Your plants will need airflow and humidity regulation to grow successfully. If you are using HID lights, be prepared to get larger fans. HID lights give off the most heat while LED lights give off the least heat.

You will also want a filter on the air intake into the grow room. If you purchase one of our grow kits, most of your climate control equipment is already included so you won’t have to worry about it when first getting started. You can then upgrade to new equipment once you get the hang of growing.

Step 4: Get timers to automate lighting and climate controls.

Make sure you get several timers to control different grow functions so you do not forget to do them manually. Some LED lights may come with built-in timers so you may not need one for your lighting.

Step 5: Don’t forget about soil, nutrients, pots, and water for your plants.

You will need decent soil, nutrients, water, and big enough pots to grow your plants. You can start with smaller pots and transplant them later too. You will also want to use filtered water to water your plants.

By using these five simple steps, you can start growing Herbs indoors quickly and easily. Just make sure you order all of your equipment and supplies and set up your grow room BEFORE you order your plants!
